Double Scoop

by Shed
The Ninja · 8.4/10

At one hundred and forty, Shed does not so much drive as detonate, snapping breaks across a grid that feels permanently tilted. The energy is relentless, almost violent in its refusal to settle into a straight four-four loop; instead, shards of percussion ricochet around a minor-key pressure chamber that keeps the tension screwed taut. It is the sound of a room tilting on its axis.

In a set, this sits where techno purists start to get queasy and the breaks heads lean in—too fast for post-dubstep languor, too twitchy for standard peak-time fare. Dekmantel’s leftfield brief is met with exacting force: I would wedge this between UK techno and electro-acid to watch the floor recalibrate in real time.
