The Ninja on this record

At 140 the kick doesn't swing so much as press, and the whole thing sits in F minor like a hand held flat against a door. Energy reads at the top of the scale, but it's channelled rather than spilled — the percussion keeps folding back on itself, small metallic details surfacing and sinking, nothing resolving. The texture is dry and close, the kind of record that makes a big room feel narrower than it is.

It belongs deep in a set, once the floor is already committed and you want to hold them there without raising the temperature. There's no drop to speak of, just a slow accumulation of pressure and a low end that does most of the persuading. Patient stuff, and better for it.
