The Ninja on this record
At 128 the kick lands square and the hats keep a tight, unshowy shuffle, so the disco touches never tip into pastiche — filtered chords, a walking bass, small guitar chops that appear and vanish. In D major there's lift without gloss; the energy sits near the top of the scale, yet the groove stays level rather than climbing.
Which makes it a mid-set record more than an opener: it wants a floor already in motion, and it hands over cleanly to something deeper or harder without a jolt. The pleasure is in the restraint — nothing overplayed, nothing rushed, just a track that knows exactly how long its own hook should last.
