I hear this at one-seventy-one and immediately register the restraint: the breakbeats eddy rather than bulldoze, and Pleizel lets the 7A minor-key melancholy seep through the gaps like water through hull timber. The drums are taut and precisely engineered, yet the overall pressure sits at a contemplative seven—more late-night reverie than rave demolition, and all the more striking for it.

I would reach for this at the after-hours tail-end, when the dancefloor has thinned and only the locked-in remain. It carries enough forward motion to sustain a set’s final hour, but its real strength is spatial: it builds a room I want to wander inside, cerebral and self-contained. Mesh has delivered a cut that proves drum and bass does not need maximalism to command my attention.
